Is it just me or when you are uploading files using FTP, it quite reguarly just stops ulpoading and you have to cancel it and try again? It is incredibly annoying!

Does your webhost support web file transfer ? If it does, you just have to transfer your tarball archive up (1 file) and then uncompressed it, of course assuming yours is unix.
Some FTP Client supports resume.

Try WS_FTP I use it and it's very useful. I have the same problem too sometimes but usually only when uploading with Dreamweaver.

Right, I knew that. I had tried some browser based ftp program once though. You would open it in your browser and enter your ftp username and pw, server address, ect., then you could upload your files with it. It was ok but max file size was only 5mb and I need something that could upload larger files.
