Very nice.
But is there a need for HTML sitemaps ? Seems that the 2 most important search engines should be enough

I don't understand you ! The sitemap is a service offered by google to indexing you site more accurate ...

They have 3 sitemaps. One for google, one for yahoo and the other for other search engines.

No ! You need to do the update by hand ... but I think can be modified to save on disck
