Just go to Google Webmasters Tool.
They have the correct backlinks for your site.

Yup, much better than the links command in google. And definitely more accurate.

The Link Command is a pile of crap, and I hate the way you have to verify a site to check the backlinks.

Instead just type @:yoursite.com into google

Yes .... they are changeing the backlinks only at 3/4 months in the same time with PR. SO you cannot see instantly how many backlinks do you have ...

Had a bit of a big jump in recognized backlinks recently. Is this something I did? Or is this just Google?

What command were you using?
Link: is just a random sample so it changes a lot.

I think recently Google just updated their backlinks.
A lot of people think that the public PR update is coming soon because of this.
