Can you recommend good practise to avoid being hacked. Forums always seem to be an easy target for hackers. How often do you backup your db?

I used to do that every mth, but now I do that every week.
Depending on which forum script u are using, it shouldnt be so easy to hack. in my case, it's my webhost server that got hacked.

I would recommend SMF for security.

Move your login/registration pages to a non standard location (prevents automated attacks on the forum itself.)
and robots.txt them so the search engines dont recognise them.

Yes, I have disallowed spiders from indexing the regsitration page.
But how do I move my login/registration page to a non standard location?
